Private Jet Charter to Bathurst- Air Charter Service

Private jet charter to Bathurst

Away from the bustle of coastal Australia on the western edge of the Central Tablelands, the charming city of Bathurst blends beautifully preserved 19th-century towns with an adrenalin-pumping motorsport extravaganza and thriving foodie scene. Experience it all: request a private jet charter quote from Air Charter Service to Bathurst.

Bathurst is surrounded by rich agricultural land where cattle, sheep and horses graze the fields and expansive fruit and vegetable farms. Compared to famous coastal regions it has a relatively cool climate – a welcome relief from the warmer temperatures along the shore and in the Red Centre. Summer temperatures tend to be in the mid-20s to low 30s, while spring, autumn and winter bring distinct seasonal changes that are more akin to New England than Australia.

While not the most enticingly-named attraction, the Australian Fossil and Mineral Museum plays host to the fascinating Somerville Collection: a huge selection of fossils, gemstones and minerals. Visitors can also see Australia’s only complete tyrannosaurus rex skeleton. Follow this up with the historic walking tour, a self-guided trail that explores cultural and historic sites including the 1890 police barracks, the courthouse and museum and Howick Street’s typical workmen’s cottages.

This region is known as Gold Country and much of the town’s prosperity was brought about by the country’s first gold rush – in the mid-1800s, thousands of people headed inland over the Great Dividing Range in search of their fortune. Today, you can take a glimpse into the past at the Bald Hill Tourist Mine near the nearby village of Hill End. Discover what life was like for prospectors, discover how much gold was mined and wander through the village, now a protected historic site.

To the west and southwest of town are two of Bathurst’s main attractions – Abercrombie House and Mt. Panorama respectively. The former is an impressive stately baronial-style mansion where you can take high tea on a Sunday or wander around the grounds; while the latter is more of a draw for petrol heads. Each October, supercar drivers and tens of thousands of racing fans arrive for the Bathurst 1000, a 1,000km touring car race that’s a highlight of Australia’s motorsport calendar. Throughout the rest of the year, the 3.8-mile circuit – which was the setting of the 1938 Australian Grand Prix – is open for people to drive around, albeit at a much more sedate pace (the speed limit is just 60km/h). This should give you more time to admire the vistas from the circuit’s elevation of 874m above sea level as you negotiate the steep and meandering track.

Bathurst is an unlikely country foodie hub, thanks to its bountiful local produce and a burgeoning café culture. Legall Patisserie and Café is famous for its melt-in-the-mouth lemon tarts, while the new cool-quarter’s many hip restaurants are perfect for a relaxed dinner. The city even has its own distillery, Stone Pine, which produces liqueurs, schnapps and gin made with locally-grown fruit.

Accommodation in Bathurst is largely low-key and unpretentious, with a range of charming bed and breakfasts, comfortable apartments and cottages and simple motor inns. Bathurst Regional Airport is located to the east of the town and is a short flight from Sydney and a few hours from Melbourne, Brisbane and Cairns.
