Saransk Airport is a small Russian airport with international operating status, located just outside of Saransk. It has a number of smaller Russian airlines which service the airport, and there are regular Moscow services daily. Saransk Airport has a single asphalt runway and an apron capable of accommodating up to ten aircraft. The airport is only 7km from Saransk, the capital city of the republic of Mordovia, and 10km away from the football stadium purpose built for the 2018 FIFA Russian World Cup. The city is reachable from the airport by road only, and it is recommended to book ground transportation in advance as taxis do not wait at the airport. Limited passenger facilities are available at the airport, however, in July of 2017 major infrastructure work began to make improvements to the airport in preparation for the 2018 Russian World Cup. Once work is completed the airport will be equip to handle increased passenger flow and a majority of narrow-body aircraft.

The airport operates from 06:00 to 18:00 and slots are controlled during this time. Airport employees do not speak English at Saransk Airport.
